President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing education in Ghana’s Muslim and underserved communities by strengthening the Islamic Education Unit and expanding opportunities for students in deprived areas.
Delivering the 2025 State of the Nation Address in Parliament yesterday February 27, he emphasized the need to provide quality education and vocational training for all.
“It is essential to enhance and resource the Islamic Education Unit to recruit more Islamic and Arabic tutors. Additionally, President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening STEM and TVET education, particularly in underserved communities. As part of this initiative, he plans to provide merit-based scholarships to academically gifted yet financially disadvantaged students.
"We will establish STEM and TVET schools in underserved peri-urban communities, provide scholarships to brilliant but needy students in deprived communities—especially for law, medicine, and engineering—support Islamic Colleges of Education with infrastructure and logistics, and enroll youth in Zongo and deprived urban areas in the National Apprenticeship Programme to offer free technical and vocational training,” President Mahama added.
His announcement signals a broader effort to address educational disparities and equip young people with the necessary skills to succeed in an evolving job market.
