Kofi Nti and Ofori Amponsah, celebrated Ghanaian musicians, have secured significant compensation in a copyright dispute involving their 2004 hit song, Odo Nwom.
The case came to light after American actor and producer Tyler Perry shared a behind-the-scenes video from his series Tyler Perry Sistas in June 2024. In the clip, the song could be heard playing during a shoot, sparking discussions among Ghanaian music enthusiasts about potential copyright violations.
In an interview with Onua TV, Kofi Nti revealed that he and Ofori Amponsah enlisted the help of UK-based lawyers to address the matter. The legal team reached out to Tyler Perry's representatives, leading to successful negotiations and a settlement.
"We handled it professionally," Kofi Nti explained. "Our UK lawyer contacted his team, and everything went smoothly. It’s resolved now, and we received some money from the agreement."
The amount paid them is not public knowledge, presently.
The duo, renowned for timeless collaborations such as Atwetaan, Bra, Wake Up, and Monica, continue to solidify their legacy both in Ghana and internationally.
