The 16-year-old son of Bishop Salifu Amoako, Founder of Alive Chapel International who is responsible for the death of two minors in an accident on October 12, has been found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to six months at the Senior Correctional Center
The victims, Justine Mary-Anne Enyonam Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, died at East Legon when the 16-year-old, driving a Jaguar SUV, collided with an Acura 4x4 on Mensah Wood Street.
He pleaded guilty, leading to his conviction after initially not pleading guilty to charges of manslaughter, negligently causing harm, dangerous driving, and driving without a license.
Prior to today's ruling, the male minor had been remanded and barred from international travel as part of his bail conditions. The court ordered him to surrender his Ghanaian and US passports.
Following the incident, the suspect's parents, Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, were also detained on charges related to allowing their underage son to drive.
The court has ordered the teenager to report to probation officers every two weeks. He has also been directed to sign an undertaking to refrain from driving until he turns 18.
In a separate ruling, the parents of the culprit have been fined 500 penalty units each (equivalent to GHc6,000) for their failure to properly supervise their son.
They were also instructed to pay for the damages caused in the accident, including a light pole valued at GHc8,000.
