President John Mahama has named new Acting Service Chiefs for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as part of efforts to reorganize its leadership.
The announcement was made in an official statement dated March 17, 2025.
The changes, set to take effect on March 24, 2025, are intended to enhance the country’s defense system and maintain high standards in military operations.
Brigadier General William Agyapong, the Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, is taking over from General Thomas Oppong-Peprah.
Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, the Acting Chief of Army Staff, replaces Major General Peter Andoh.
Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing, the Acting Chief of Naval Staff, succeeds Rear Admiral Issah Yakubu.
Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong, the Acting Chief of Air Staff, steps in for Air Vice Marshal Frank Hanson.
Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, the Acting Chief of Staff, takes over from Major General Nicholas Andoh.
These appointments are pending consultation with the Council of State, as required by law.
