Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Blay Nyameke Armah, has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking GHS10 million against the Jospong Group of Companies, Lawuratu Musah-Saka, and Ignite Media Group, which runs Metro TV.
This action follows false claims made by Lawuratu Musah-Saka, a member of the communications team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during an appearance on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana Show.
Musah-Saka accused Armah of owning 3,000 kilograms (or 3.3 tons) of cocaine, worth about USD $350 million, and referred to him as a “cocaine kingpin” in connection with an ongoing drug trafficking case in Ghana.
In response to these claims, Mr. Armah, during an appearance on the Kumasi-based TV station Oyerepa on April 8, 2025, denied the allegations. He stated that he has never seen cocaine in his life and has no involvement in the accusations, adding that he would be pursuing a lawsuit.
According to the writ, the plaintiff said Musah-Saka's comments, made on Metro TV, were false, harmful, and defamatory. He also highlighted that the defamatory statements were rebroadcast during the 6:00 pm news on Metro TV and were further published and republished on various digital and all social media platforms belonging to the Jospong Group and Ignite Media Group, thereby extending the publication to a global audience and rendering the defamatory content permanent and continuously accessible.
Consequently, Mr Blay Armah is seeking a total of nine reliefs from the general jurisdiction high court where he has filed his application.
His reliefs include an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, Jospong Group, Lawuratu Musah-Saka, and Ignite Media Group, from making or in any other way, causing to be publish any further defamatory statements about the Plaintiff.
An order directed at the defendants to retract and apologize to Plaintiff Mr Blay K. Armah with the same prominence and circulation as he caused to be published of the defamatory statement in the following manner.
Punitive damages against the defendants in favour of the plaintiff as punishment for the defamatory statement posted on social media platforms. Compensatory damages against the defendants in favour of the plaintiff for the defamatory statements posted on social media platforms. He is also asking for legal cost and any other reliefs the court may deem fit.
Suspicion about the two flights began when a Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Ntim Fordjour alleged that two flights— a private jet and an air ambulance— landed at Kotoka International Airport in March, carrying suspected cocaine and cash with no medical referrals or patients on board.
However, these claims were denied by the presidency, President Mahama directed security agencies to collaborate with Fordjour in investigating the claims, though the government maintained they were baseless.
The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has refuted allegations linking its officials to claims of drug trafficking involving two aircraft that recently landed at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
In a strong response to media reports suggesting GACL officials passed false information to Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, the company clarified that thorough security checks were conducted and no illegal substances were found.
