The Member of Parliament for New Edubiase, Adams Abdul-Salam, has assured constituents that the incoming John Dramani Mahama administration will fulfill its promise to complete the New Edubiase Sports Stadium.According to the MP, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) initiated the project but accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of deliberately abandoning it.He expressed optimism about the project’s revival under Mahama’s leadership, saying, “The NDC government began the project, but the NPP intentionally left it incomplete. However, I believe that once Mahama assumes the presidency, he will ensure the completion of this important project.”The New Edubiase Sports Stadium has been a significant concern for the community, and residents remain hopeful that the promised development will materialize.
"During the campaign, John Mahama visited my constituency, and I presented four demands, with the New Edubiase Sports Stadium being a key priority. The previous NDC government began the project, but the NPP intentionally left it incomplete. However, I, along with John Mahama, will ensure the stadium's completion," Abdul-Salam promised.
Construction on the New Edubiase Sports Stadium began in July 2016, but was suspended when it became clear that the project lacked the necessary funds to finish.
The initial phase of the project consisting of a football pitch and dressing room, according to the Minister, would cost GH¢5.4 million. He said, the project would be redesigned by experts within two weeks to ensure that it meets recent standards.Mr. Isaac Asiamah who visited the project grounds disclosed that, appropriate funding had been secured to complete the stadium.
After almost three years since work stalled on the construction of the New Edubiase Sports Stadium, owing to the unavailability of dedicated funds for the project, the Minister for Youth and Sports Hon Isaac Kwame Asiamah in 2019 directed that work commence on the project.
This comes after the Ministry secured funds through the National Youth Authority (NYA) to ensure that the project is completed. With the availability of funds, the Sports Minister also directed that the project be redesigned to include an athletic oval and multi-purpose sports courts.
The redesigning of the project has become necessary as a result of challenges associated with the initial structural works. The new design would make the stadium conform to world standard as well as come with additional facilities.Meanwhile, the MP asserted that the incoming John Dramani Mahama administration will focus on ensuring the Black Stars secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup.He emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will collaborate closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to make the right decisions for the team’s success.Reflecting on the disappointment of the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Abdul-Salam stated:"President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government are committed to ensuring the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 World Cup. We missed out on the 2025 AFCON tournament, but we will support the Ghana Football Association (GFA) by providing necessary resources to help the team qualify. Our main goal is to secure qualification for the Black Stars," he said in an interview on Asempa FM.
