Ghana is expected to secure an additional US$370 million from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) once its Executive Board approves the fourth review of the country’s ongoing economic support program.
“IMF staff and the Ghanaian authorities have reached a staff-level agreement on the fourth review of Ghana’s economic program under the Extended Credit Facility arrangement,” said Stéphane Roudet, IMF Mission Chief for Ghana.
He noted that “upon completion of the Executive Board review, Ghana would have access to SDR 267.5 million (about US$370 million).”
This upcoming disbursement will push the total financial support received by Ghana under the US$3 billion program to approximately US$2.36 billion.
While the IMF acknowledged stronger-than-anticipated growth in 2024—boosted by solid mining and construction activity—it flagged fiscal weaknesses and election-related overspending at the end of the year.
The government has since introduced a budget targeting a primary surplus and committed to reforms aimed at restoring stability and meeting the program's objectives.
