Celebrated Ghanaian actor Mawuli Semevo has died at the age of 63, following complications from severe burns sustained in a fire accident.
He passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Ridge Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for over a week.
The tragic incident came to light on February 8, 2025, when Judith Addison, founder of Beyond Burns International—an organization that advocates for burn survivors—revealed that Semevo was in critical condition after the accident.
“Beyond Burns International got an SOS that something unfortunate has happened. We came here today, and veteran actor Mawuli Semevo has been involved in a severe fire accident. I came here to see him, and his life is hanging in the balance," Judith shared in a video posted on the organization’s social media pages.
Addison disclosed that the actor was asleep at home when the fire broke out, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.
"He has suffered burns up to 44% of his body. He has respiratory injuries and cannot breathe properly. This is very serious. From his head to his legs. Everywhere caught fire and he has lost all his hair," she explained.
The news was later confirmed by fellow actors Ken Fiati and Edinam Atatsi, who expressed their concerns and extended their support during Semevo’s battle for survival.
Mawuli Semevo was known for his exceptional talent and memorable performances both on stage and screen. His notable works include roles in Harvest at 17, A Stab in the Dark, Escape of Love, Like Cotton Twines, and The Good Old Days: The Love of AA.
