Ghanaian dancehall sensation Shatta Wale will join Jamaican icon Vybz Kartel for the much-anticipated Freedom Street Concert on December 31, at Kingston’s National Stadium.
The event marks Vybz Kartel’s triumphant return to the stage following his release from prison earlier this year, ending a 13-year incarceration.
Shatta Wale will perform alongside global dancehall heavyweights such as Popcaan, Busta Rhymes, Skillibeng, and Spice.
This concert is set to be a defining moment for the genre, bringing together legends and rising stars to celebrate its enduring legacy.
With Vybz Kartel back in the spotlight, the atmosphere promises to be electric, and Shatta Wale’s performance will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression as the year concludes with an unforgettable showcase of talent in Kingston.
Kartel, along with Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, was convicted in 2014 for the 2011 murder of Williams. Despite their convictions being upheld by the local Court of Appeal in 2020, the case was taken to the UK-based Privy Council, which overturned the murder convictions on March 14, 2024, citing juror misconduct.
The case was subsequently remitted to the Jamaica Court of Appeal to decide whether a retrial would occur.
