The home and office of Ghana's Minister of Communication and Digitalization, Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, were invaded and vandalized by a gang of about 15 men following her recent electoral defeat in the just-ended general elections.
The assailants stormed the premises, making away with “three motorbikes, one pickup vehicle, and a 32-inch Samsung television set, among others,” according to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service.
The Police have since launched investigations into the incident and assured the public of swift action. “Crime Scene Management team has visited the scene as part of the Police investigation into the incident. Currently, a targeted intelligence-led operation is ongoing to get the suspects arrested to face justice, and we assure the public that we will get them,” the statement noted.
To ensure her safety, the Police leadership has reached out to the Minister and “beefed up security at her office and residence,” the statement added.
The attack comes shortly after Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, lost her seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Rev. Kweku Addo, who won with 31,866 votes against her 26,575.
As investigations continue, the Police have urged the public to remain calm while they work to bring the perpetrators to justice.
