The Electoral Commission (EC) has called for the immediate dispersal of large crowds gathered at collation centres across the country, citing that the presence of party supporters is hindering the release of election results.
In a press briefing on Sunday, Samuel Tettey, the Deputy Chairman of Operations, emphasized the need to clear the centres to ensure a smooth and efficient collation process.
He pointed out that these areas are restricted to accredited individuals only, and the large crowds have caused significant disruptions, delaying the release of certified results.
Despite the closure of polls at 5:00 PM on December 7, the collation process has been delayed due to confusion, logistical challenges, and overcrowding at various collation centres.
The EC had previously stated that the process of collating both presidential and parliamentary results was underway, but reports from several constituencies indicated that no certified results have been released due to the ongoing chaos.
As citizens await results, the National Peace Council (NPC) and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) have joined the EC in urging political parties to ensure that their supporters vacate the collation centres to allow the process to proceed without further interruptions.
