Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has offered an update on David Alaba’s recovery, hinting at the defender’s return to action.
Speaking to the media, Ancelotti expressed optimism about Alaba’s progress, stating, “David Alaba is close to play games, he will be ready January 20.” He also highlighted the team’s need for defensive rotations, saying, “We will rotate more now, especially in defense.”
However, reports from club sources paint a more cautious picture of Alaba’s rehabilitation journey. The Austrian defender, sidelined since December due to an ACL injury, underwent surgery shortly after the setback and required a second procedure in May. This prolonged his recovery timeline, and he has yet to make strides indicating a near-term return.
Insiders suggest Alaba’s return is more likely in the latter half of the season, potentially in 2025. Even then, his reintroduction to competitive football will need to be gradual to ensure he regains full fitness and confidence.
With Real Madrid’s limited defensive options, Alaba’s eventual comeback could prove crucial as the season progresses.
