The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that the District Electoral Officer (DEO) for Afadjato South in the Volta Region was questioned by the Ghana Police Service for transporting election materials in a private vehicle without police escort.
The incident, which occurred yesterday, led to the police taking custody of the materials. According to the EC, its policy requires that all election materials be transported using official vehicles and, where necessary, under police escort to ensure security and transparency.
In a statement, the Commission assured the public that despite the officer's breach of protocol, the integrity of the elections in the Afadjato South Constituency remains intact.
“The actions of the officer will not in any way compromise the elections in the Afadjato South Constituency,” the statement read.
The Commission has pledged to conduct its own internal investigations into the matter while fully cooperating with the police in their ongoing inquiry.
This development comes amid heightened calls for strict adherence to election procedures as the nation works to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process.
